This 4-Week Kid's Book Workshop is perfect for aspiring and emerging children’s book writers, educators, or anyone with a story to share with young readers.

Award-winning picture book author Caron Levis (Ida, Always, Feathers Together, May I Have a Word?) will teach four interactive workshops, guiding participants through the key elements of crafting a memorable picture book — from sparking an idea to shaping a manuscript that resonates with both young readers and grown ups.

No previous writing experience required.

“Why did this book make me feel sad and happy?” -1st grade reader of Feathers Together.

From Caron Levis:

Writing for young people is playful and serious work. First day of school, first friend, first joke, first heartbreak…young readers lives are full of first-time experiences and the emotions that go with them. That’s why picture books, middle grade, and young adult books tackle subjects as humorous as interrupting chickens and as challenging as death, divorce, and social justice. Whether you’re writing for pre-schoolers or teenagers, tapping into the emotional lives of your characters can connect your readers to themselves, each other, and the world. Through presentations, discussion, and generative writing exercises, participants will explore writing stories for young readers of all ages with feeling.

What You’ll Learn:

4 weeks of mini craft lesson, prompts/sharing/discussion—With short writing  assignments between.

  • Writers will present a project.
  • Writers will create a Project Plan before setting off on a drafting journey
Mondays, 2-4PM EST: October 27th-November 17th
